St Kilda legend Danny Frawley has opened up about his private pain in an in-depth, heartfelt interview.

Frawley, who played 240 games in the red, white and black, shared details about his mental health battles in a lengthy chat with Hamish McLachlan for SEN.

“It started from a very young age,” Frawley said.

“Being a farmer, I was always told to toughen up. There wasn’t a lot of compassion shown to me, no talking through things, just told to be tough, and get on with it.”

Discussing stressful positions as CEO of the AFL Coaches Association, highly sought after media talent and senior coach of Richmond Football Club, Frawley shared his journey through diagnosis, acceptance and sustained happiness moving forward.

“We are changing and we’re getting better, but we can get a hell of a lot better, there’s no doubting that,” Frawley said.

“As I said, I’m blessed looking back now with the life I’ve had. Hopefully I’ve got a lot more to go.”
